Canadian Observation

I know this is my place to talk about life here in Oz. But today is the exception. I see that there is a new government. The Conservatives were successful in their smear campaign.

Like most Canadians I was not happy with some of the Liberal's actions while in power. Although I am thoroughly disgusted with this entire election campaign. It was nothing more then an enormous smear fest. I did not see one advertisement from any of the parties not just the Conservatives that had anything to do with political promises. All of them were "lets trash the Liberals" Not one of them was why you should vote for me. There hasn't been much talk here about the election, as a whole although there has been a couple of discussions amongst the Canadians. The general consensus was that the Conservative's were going to get it but it was more of the that they seemed to be the lesser of the two (four in this case) evils.

The ones here wont be too concerned one way or another because the education promises made do not benefit us, as we are not in Canada. Even then the one Conservative promise I did hear was that they were going to give you a $500 tax credit for books. Big WOOPIE DOO. I spent almost that much for 3 textbooks this semester. But like I said it doesn't matter cause I don't go to a Canadian post secondary institution.

One major compliant is that young people don't vote. Here's an idea. If you want young people (18-34) to vote. Give them some incentive to vote. Here's one for them to contemplate. If you want post secondary students to vote make your education promises available to all Canadian residents no matter where they go to school as long as they are enrolled in post secondary education somewhere.

But enough of the rant. Good Luck with the new government. I guess if Paul Martin is enough of a man to be able to suck it up and congratulate Prime Minister Stephen Harper I guess I can too. Congratulations Canada on your new government.
