How Unfortunate

There's a report in the news today about two volunteer firemen who while battling the fires here have lost their jobs. Foster's beer manufacturer decided to outsource part of their productions earlier this week and two of the people affected are volunteer firemen who have been using their vacation time to work around the clock fighting the fires. I know in the states after the September 11th attacks the government put emergency legislation into effect that those who went to New York to help were guaranteed their jobs regardless of how long they were gone. It wouldn't surprise me if Australia does the same, or at the very least if some other company steps up and hires these two guys. Time will tell.

On a more positive note the police arrested a 39 yr old man in connection with one of the fires that killed 21 people. The federal police are just trying to determine all of the charges. They are still looking for the person who set the one fire which wiped out an entire township and they figure that at least 100 people were killed in that one.

International help is starting to arrive. The news announced on the news tonight that arson investigators were arriving from the UK, New Zealand, Canada and the US to help.
