Cranes and Cars

Imagine my surprise this morning when I went out to the pool only to discover a crane towering over the pool, multiple rescue workers milling around the deck and a car at the bottom of the deep end.

Needless to say I was a little surprised especially since everyone at the gym was perfectly calm going about as if this was an ordinary day.

Confused and a little ticked that when I signed in and got my ticket for water aerobics I was given one and not told about class being cancelled, I went back in to see what in the world was going on. Matt, the guy at the reception desk saw me come back in and seeing the look of confusion on my face said that class was still on but that we were restricted to the roped off area. Upon returning back out to the pool still a little confused I saw that there was an area about 20 m's long and the first four lanes which were roped off for access to the public.

Now even more confused, as part of the rescue workers had now donned diving gear, my class commenced in the roped off area. Being the daughter and sister of firemen I was still leary of getting in the pool, until I over heard a couple of the rescue workers complaining about having to give up their Saturday for 'this bs training'

As it turns out the helicopter rescue team were having a training session. They used the pool here because it was a 'controlled' environment. In that they didn't have to worry about people seeing them and blowing things out of proportion. Yeah, I admit I didn't realize initially that it was only a practice but I knew that they had everything under control and didn't have to worry about freaking out. Initial confusion about why the gym was still allowing us access to the pool is not the same as freaking out over an accident scene.

So all in all it was an interesting class.
